Lincoln Park Community Services Recipient of Chicago Building 2020 Congress Merit Award
The MKB-designed Lincoln Park Community Services (LPCS) project is the winner of the Chicago Building Congress Merit Awards – Renovation & Adaptive Reuse Under $15M category.
The 28,000 sf building has 20 units of permanent supportive housing, 48 beds of interim supportive housing (shelter), and LPCS’s administrative offices. LPCS is an adaptive reuse project of a former kitchen and bath showroom building and a new addition. The interim housing/shelter and administrative offices are in the renovated rear building and the 20 permanent supportive housing units are in the front addition. The courtyard, situated between the front and rear buildings, provides natural light and ventilation for both buildings and serves as an adjacent outdoor space for the LPCS community to gather.
This transit-oriented development is directly adjacent to a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Brown Line station, allowing for enhanced accessibility to the facility for the clients and residents. The project is Enterprise Green Communities certified, the country’s only national green building program designed explicitly for the affordable housing sector.
