Youth Housing & Supportive Services

Covenant House was founded over 40 years ago and has locations in 31 cities across 6 countries, welcoming young people ages 18-24 facing or at risk of homelessness into their centers.

MKB Architects assisted Covenant House Illinois (CHIL) in developing a master plan for the renovation of a 30,000 sf, three story loft building in Chicago’s East Garfield Park neighborhood. The project will be completed in three phases over five years. The building includes a 60 bed sleeping area for young men and women, community/dining room, kitchen and culinary education space, counseling center, meeting rooms, and landscaped courtyard. CHIL’s administrative offices will also be located on site.

The renovation’s first and second phases have been completed, with the design of updated sleeping areas, administrative offices, and community meal room for its residents. The third phase of construction is beginning for additional sleeping areas on the top floor.
