The Health and Fitness Center for the Lawndale Christian Health Center represents a major step forward in their goal to “Create a Culture of Wellness” in the North Lawndale Community. The four story, 60,000 sf facility includes a large fitness center complete with indoor running track, Green Tomato Cafe and learning kitchen where healthful cooking will be taught, and a Medical Clinic including Pediatrics, Obstetrics and a Dental Clinic. In addition, a Conference Center on the fourth floor opens on to a green roof deck. Committed to sustainability, the project achieved LEED Gold certification by incorporating geothermal wells, low-e glass, highly insulated walls and locally sourced materials. The project is a recipient of an Illinois Clean Energy Grant, the ARRA Grant, and a $10M grant through the Health Resources and Services Administration.
